We are pretty used to travelling with a backpack of 40-60L. We don’t mind carrying our large backpacks when we’re on a long trip. But whenever we wanted to make a short trip out of the city, or a city trip somewhere in Europe, a trolley was the only option to take our clothes, camera, laptop, and stuff with us. And no, we are not ‘trolley-people.’ We hate dragging it behind us and mostly trip over once when it hits our heels. So we started looking for an affordable backpack which we could use to take all our stuff with us on short weekend trips. And then we found out about NayoSmart.
THE REQUIREMENTS OF A GOOD BACKPACK
We had a couple of requirements. The bag had to be durable, inexpensive, lightweight, big enough to accommodate all our stuff, but also small enough to use as carry-on luggage on airplanes. After some searching and reading reviews online, we found NayoSmart, and their backpacks looked like the perfect ones for us.
NayoSmart probably doesn’t ring a bell, but honestly, all their backpacks look really good. All of their bags have a minimalistic design but can pack everything you need for short trips. It was a difficult choice, but we wanted to have plenty of space when needed, but not a bulky backpack as you’ll usually see people with. So eventually, we opted for the Nayo EXP Backpack. We choose for the EXP backpack because it’s, like the name gives away, expandable. When the bag is compressed, there’s a capacity of 25L, and when expanded with only 10cm, it becomes a bag with a capacity of 40L!
EXPLORE THE CITY, EVEN WHEN IT RAINS
The bag doesn’t look like a real travel bag at all. More like a backpack for businessmen to carry their laptops. While it’s perfectly possible to use it for that purpose (it has a dedicated laptop sleeve), it’s really designed to travel with. Because what would travelers do when it’s raining? They’d still be exploring the city and make most of their time with the right gear. The Nayo EXP Backpack is made from 600D high-density polyester with a waterproof, polyurethane coating, which makes it a perfect bag to explore the city with. Especially when you can leave your clothes in the hotel, and compress the bag to 25L. We already used it in different weather situations, and the contents were always intact and dry afterwards.
POCKETS, POCKETS, POCKETS
Another awesome feature about the Nayo EXP Backpack is the endless varieties of pockets and compartments to keep your stuff organized. When you open the bag -it opens like a suitcase!-, you’ll immediately see one big compartment for your clothes, camera, and accessories which separates the rest with mesh. Perfect if you packed a bit too much ;-). In the other pockets, you can keep your toiletries, gadgets, and there’s even an external USB charging port to charge the batteries of your phone while keeping your charging block safe! At the back, there’s a dedicated laptop sleeve that fits laptops up to 17″ and tablets. Then there are still lots of small pockets to keep your documents, cards, etc. safely close to you. I’m still discovering new pockets every time I use the bag!
COMFORTABLE AND LIGHTWEIGHT
I was surprised that even with a full backpack, it feels remarkably lightweight. That’s probably because of the moulded padding on the shoulder straps and the back. Even expanded, the bag doesn’t feel like it’s hanging with a heavy weight down on your back. The only downside I noticed is that the straps are too easy to adjust, which might sound good, but the height settings of the shoulder straps can accidentally change after a while because of this.
We truly fell in love with the Nayo EXP Backpack! For its price – around $100, but on sale at the time of writing -, we’ve got an extremely decent backpack which we now take with us every time we go on day or weekend trips. I even use it to go to work and put my laptop in it! It has enough space to carry clothes for two people if you go away for 3-4 days and can still be used as a carry-on on flights! The only slight downside are the easily adjusted shoulder straps, which are a bit too easy to adjust. Overall, a great backpack and happy with our purchase!
